The Gentle Folk story began in 2012 in Basket Range with Gareth and Rainbo Belton leaving their careers as marine biologists to take up winemaking, inspired by natural wine pioneers James Erskine (Jauma) and Anton von Klopper (Lucy Margaux). By 2013, Gentle Folk was started, with just 3 barrels from the neighbouring Broderick family’s Basket Range Vineyard (who we also represent). Over the years, they have honed their methods and styles, and now farm eight hectares across a small number of vineyards in the Adelaide Hills.
